AIME The European Society for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIME), was established in 1986 with two main goals:
  1. to foster fundamental and applied research in the application of AI to medical care and medical research
  2. to provide a forum for reporting significant results achieved at biennial conferences.
Additionally, AIME assists medical industrials to identify new AI techniques with high potential for integration into new products.
A major activity of this society has been a series of international conferences held biennially over the last 20 years:
  • Marseilles, France (1987)
  • London, UK (1989)
  • Maastricht, Netherlands (1991)
  • Munich, Germany (1993)
  • Pavia, Italy (1995)
  • Grenoble, France (1997)
  • Aalborg, Denmark (1999)
  • Cascais, Portugal (2001)
  • Protaras, Cyprus (2003)
  • Aberdeen, Scotland
The department of Medical Informatics of the University of Amsterdam is proud to be hosting AIME 07, the eleventh conference in the series, which will be a unique opportunity to present and improve the international state of the art of AI in Medicine from both a research and an applications perspective. For this purpose, AIME 07 will include invited lectures, contributed full and short papers, system demonstrations, tutorials, workshops and a doctoral consortium for PhD students.

AIME 07 is an inter-university effort: The local organization is chaired by Ameen Abu-Hanna from the University of Amsterdam who also chairs the Workshop and Tutorial Organization Committee. The Program Committee Chair is Riccardo Bellazzi from the University of Pavia in Italy who is responsible for the scientific program of the conference. The Doctoral Consortium Chair is Jim Hunter from the University of Aberdeen.
Amsterdam Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is one of the most colourful cities in the world! Where else do you find so many places of interest, famous museums, cozy pubs and 173 nationalities? It inhabits 750.000 people, 600.000 bicycles, and about 7000 buildings from the 16th, 17th and 18th century. The city is associated with water: from its 165 canals and 1281 bridges for its ships and its reclaimed land.
Klinische Informatiekunde UvA AIME 07 is hosted by The department of Medical Informatics which was founded in 1995 and currently employs about 30 people. It is a scientific department within the Academic Medical Center (AMC). The central research theme within the department is supporting, steering and evaluating patient care using methods and techniques native to the information sciences and other related disciplines. Through education it also prepares professionals in health informatics and promotes their intellectual growth.
UvA The University of Amsterdam (25.000 students, founded in 1632) is the larger of two universities in the city. The Academic Medical Center (AMC) of the University of Amsterdam is a merger between the Medical Faculty and a former university hospital. The AMC employs more than 6000 people and offers a medical doctor degree in Medicine, and BSc and MSc degrees in Medical Informatics. It is unique in Europe to offer a Medical Informatics program from within the Faculty of Medicine.
Rode Hoed Conference Venue AIME 07 will be held in "De Rode Hoed" (The Red Hat) which is located in a beautiful historic building in the centre of Amsterdam. The main conference will take place in the big hall, a former clandestine church with a great ambiance. Additionally there are four smaller rooms (Keizerzaal, Kleine Zaal, Banning Zaal and Souterrain) which will be used for the tutorials, workshops, and the doctoral consortium which will take place prior to the main conference.
